Achieving LEED-CI Gold, North Bay Regional Surgery Center was the first Sutter Health Affiliate project to earn certification from the USGBC. The 9,700 s.f. facility was designed with health and the environment in mind. The elimination of flooring and impact protection manufactured with PVC, and the installation of low-mercury lighting, were just a few of the design responses to the desire for reduced toxins in the indoor environment. Daylight and views in operating rooms, pre-op and recovery bays not only reduce energy demand but also provide a connection to the outdoors for the centers’ occupants. Reaching a goal to significantly reduce water-use, a vacuum plumbing system contributes to the 66% overall reduction.
