City of Hope Outpatient Surgery Center
Duarte, CA
This project is a 18,750 s.f. tenant improvement in an existing three-story building. It consists of a four OR, four procedure room ambulatory surgery center with 28 pre-op/post-op bays. Two procedure rooms are dedicated for gastroenterology and the two others will be designed to accommodate future gastroenterology cases. Ancillary spaces include; waiting, check-in, staff, administrative spaces.
Certified LEED-CI Gold, the project incorporated many sustainable features. Low-emitting materials were the clear choice for a cancer treatment center, and the project team also endeavored to select materials free of the harmful chemical compounds that are all too prevalent in modern building materials – such as lead, mercury and cadmium. The high-efficiency filtration, space pressurization, and exhaust systems were carefully commissioned to ensure a healthy environment for occupants from day one. A distinctive wood ceiling, made entirely from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood contributes to the peaceful and organic atmosphere, while daylight and unblocked views of the San Gabriel Mountains provide a positive distraction for loved-ones waiting during procedures.
