Banner Sterling Regional MedCenter David Walsh Cancer Center
Sterling, CO
This new 9,600 s.f. center was developed to meet an acute need for cancer care in a rural, underserved community. It offers services for radiation and medical oncology, and includes two exam rooms, a linear accelerator vault, six infusion bays, and a healing garden patio area. The vault is accessed through a maze that obviates the need for a shielded door.
The shape and layout of the facility was designed to integrate seamlessly with adjacent buildings on a constrained site while maintaining the existing entryway. Corridor connections to the hospital and family care clinic were created to improve staff workflow and provide greater patient accessibility. Interior and exterior materials, chosen to match the center’s existing prairie motif, create a soothing, calm healing environment.
