This project retrofits an existing retail commercial shopping center to create a new outpatient community health and wellness center. At just over 20,000 s.f., the health center includes urgent care, primary care, orthopedics/sports medicine, specialty care, wellness and education, women’s health, and imaging. The project provides community wellness services close to residents, improving access via proximity of providers. The San Clemente Health Center changes how people envision their relationship with their health provider, with a strong focus on wellness including prevention, alternative medicine therapies, mental wellbeing, nutrition, fitness, integrative medicine, education, and screening. The construction included retrofit of the exterior façade to provide a welcoming front door, with new storefront windows to provide natural light into the public spaces. An outdoor patio takes full advantage of the San Clemente climate by offering outdoor fitness classes, education and wellness programs, and health events. The open lobby includes a large skylight and provides digital resources and education for patients while they wait, including a water bar, surf memorabilia, and aromatherapy products.
