UCHealth Positron Emission Tomography Cardiac CT
Aurora, CO
This project encompassed a 3,300 s.f. relocation and equipment upgrade for a CT and PET/CT within an inpatient heart and vascular program. Due to the project’s location in the center of an operational hospital, the team worked diligently to mitigate impacts to surrounding departments like the NICU and CV labs—an effort that necessitated careful coordination between the design and construction teams to minimize disruptions.
The design team generated innovative solutions to the space limitations in order to fit all necessary elements while adhering to strict state regulations and fulfilling the client’s needs. In addition to the imaging equipment, the remodel houses an uptake/exercise area, hot lab, hot toilet, control rooms, holding area, and equipment support space. A new air handling unit was also installed, located in a large closet to the north of the project site.
Because one of the new machines was donated by the University of Colorado, the team had to remain nimble in design, as they were unsure of the equipment’s exact specifications until later in the project. The team also coordinated extensively around the lead-lined walls required to install the imaging equipment.
