UHS Fairfax Inland Northwest Behavioral Health Expansion

Spokane, WA

Inland Northwest Behavioral Health is a joint venture project between Providence Health and Services and Universal Health Services (UHS) that provides much needed inpatient behavioral health beds for the eastern area of Washington. The small, sloping, urban site, donated by Providence, sits on the Providence campus near downtown Spokane.

BA teamed with NAC Architecture for this project, which involved a new three-story, 100-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital with staff and patient support spaces, along with an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The first floor includes intake, kitchen and dining, administration spaces, IOP, and pharmacy. On the second floor, a two-story gym opens directly to a courtyard. Floors two and three include three units serving a general adult population and one unit designed for adolescents, along with staff offices and support, patient consult rooms, and multi-purpose spaces. The project also included two secure patient courtyards, partially covered, for outdoor recreation and relaxation.
