Sutter Rohnert Park Medical Office Building Tenant Improvement

Sutter Rohnert Park Medical Office Building Tenant Improvement

Rohnert Park, CA

This 20,000 s.f. tenant improvement entailed an adaptive reuse of an existing 1980s office building to create a new clinic for Sutter Health in the Rohnert Park community, which has experienced significant growth in recent years due to fires in nearby Santa Rosa. The clinic program includes family medicine, urgent care, lab, and imaging (CT, X-ray, ultrasound), with flexible shared support spaces that allow urgent care to utilize exam rooms outside primary care hours.

The visual design departs from Sutter’s standard templates, featuring a distinctive ceiling lighting element inspired by the rolling hills and vineyards of Sonoma County and the Russian River, which contrasts with the clinic’s geometric layout and cultivates a connection to place.

The design process involved multiple user group meetings to shape the space according to operational needs, with close collaboration among the design team, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve any challenges that arose. Significant technical challenges included filling a 14-inch elevated floor left over from the building’s previous use as a call center and creating new sewer connections despite a city paving moratorium, which required creative on-site solutions.
