UC Davis Health Folsom Medical Office Building

UC Davis Health Folsom Medical Office Building

Folsom, CA

This flagship project marks UC Davis Health’s first major off-campus building in a new region. The 110,000-square-foot, three-story medical office building serves as the anchor project for a master-planned, multi-building, 34-acre medical campus. The project was rooted in a highly collaborative design/build delivery method, with the full team—including Rudolph & Sletten, LPAS, Boulder Associates, Jacobs, UC Davis Health, and major trade partners—co-located in a shared workspace two days per week.

The building was designed as a comprehensive wellness resource for the burgeoning Folsom community, including an infusion center, imaging suite, teaching kitchen, and two floors of clinical space. The layout is based on universal clinical modules, guided by functionality and flow, to ensure flexibility for future program changes. In a unique reversal of the typical design process, the building’s interiors dictated the exterior form, prompting the team to create a hinged layout that accommodates the interior programming and provides panoramic outdoor views to the campus’s Central Green via light-filled waiting concourses on floors two and three.

The building’s orientation on campus highlights the Central Green, which acts as the centerpiece of the campus and features walking paths, a children’s playground, and an amphitheater designed to support community engagement. The building is targeting LEED Silver and SITES Gold certifications and is fully electric, reducing environmental impact and preparing the campus for future integration of renewable energy.
