California Pacific Medical Center St. Luke’s Hospital  |  San Francisco, California

Sutter Health affiliate California Pacific Medical Center’s goal is to develop an efficient citywide system of care delivery. Revitalizing the St. Luke’s 140-year-old campus will aid in the continuation of providing high-quality care to the diverse population of the Mission District and its surrounding neighborhoods.

Sutter Health’s pivotal goal is to consolidate services and buildings within their California Pacific Medical Center city-wide system. St. Luke’s Hospital addition of the new acute care community building will commission 80 beds and continue to maintain and improve critical services, such as: emergency department, birthing department, medical/surgical, intensive care unit, urgent care, and senior health. With an adopted LEAN process principle, the Boulder Associates/SmithGroup team will break down the traditional hospital department silos, creating more flexibility with sharing spaces and becoming easily adaptable to multiple users. The team is helping Sutter Health and CPMC look at enterprise-wide resources for the entire system, such as centralizing food preparation services at one large facility then dispersing of it to smaller hospitals.

The site was master planned to allow for phasing of the project around a historic 1912 building, and to allow for the continual occupancy of the existing acute care building until the new hospital can be occupied.

SmithGroupJJR is the Associate Architect for this project.
